Leicester City's under-23s could have returned to the top of the Premier League 2 table on Monday night but were denied as visitors Brighton struck late to seal a 2-2 draw.

City had been in front thanks to Callum Wright's pair of headers, but the Seagulls maintained their unbeaten record, Aaron Connolly scoring in injury time.

City had two senior players on the Holmes Park pitch in the form of Danny Simpson and Andy King, signalling that they won't be involved in the senior side's Carabao Cup tie at Wolves, although Hamza Choudhury and Fousseni Diabate, absent on Monday, might be.

All the updates on the keenly-contested encounter can be found below, while you can get in touch with your thoughts on Facebook or Twitter.

Dewsbury-Hall’s effort goes over, and that should be that.

Free-kick for City...

It’s Dewsbury-Hall to take...

Brighton level in injury time!

What a sucker punch for City.

A free-kick is nodded down and Connolly blasts past Johansson.

Four minutes added on

Just injury time to hang on.

Simpson off the line

A corner is delivered deep and an unmarked Barclay meets it.

He heads it centrally and Simpson blocks before booting clear.

Goalscorer Wright goes off

He’s replaced by Martis.

His last action was to swing in a free-kick, which was met by Knight before City were penalised for a foul on Keto, a decision which earns jeers from the crowd.

Second change for City

Kaba Sherif is on for Ramsay, who set up the first goal.

Brighton getting back into it

They’ve hardly had a kick in the second half, but Brighton are slowly working their way back into the game and giving centre-backs Knight and Johnson something to think about it. No chances though.

First sub for City

Leshabela is on for Uche.

Meanwhile, Brighton have just had their best chance of the half, substitute Tilley heading wide Davies’ looped cross.

Round of applause for Knight

The City centre-back has just dribbled 50 yards, past four or five men, before winning a free-kick. Excellent.

At the other end, Johansson gives the ball away, but City get back in numbers to prevent a chance for Brighton.

Another Uche header saved

City are really pushing for a third.

King’s cross is flicked on by Loft then powered goalwards by Uche, with Keto diving to his left to prevent City doubling their lead.

From the corner, King has a shot, Keto getting his body behind it.

Good football from City

City are looking confident now and are almost in again as Elder is threaded through down the left. His cross is just cut out.

City take the lead!

And it’s another header from Wright!

Simpson’s deep cross from the right is met by the winger, who hooks a header goalwards from 12 yards.

It hits the post, then Keto’s back and rolls across the line. It’s technically an own goal, but Wright will be claiming it.

Uche header saved

Just like the goal, Ramsay’s cross from the right is met with a City head.

This time it’s Uche, but Keto saves comfortably.

Second half begins

And there’s a chance for City immediately, Dewsbury-Hall splitting the defence with a delightful ball, Elder denied by Keto from a tight angle.

Half-time: City 1-1 Brighton

A very entertaining first half, with City more than deserving to go in level.

City back on level terms!

Well, that didn’t take long.

Knight slides a ball down the right wing, Ramsay throwing in a dummy to get ahead of his marker.

Ramsay sets his sights then drives a cross into the box which Wright meets perfectly, directing a firm header into the corner.

Brighton take the lead

The visitors are in front and it comes via a cruel deflection.

Dreyer brings the ball forward then shoots low from 20 yards. It takes a nick off one of the several City defenders in front of him and completely wrong-foots Johansson, rolling into the corner.

Opening for Brighton

Just as City were beginning to assert their dominance, Brighton have an excellent chance.

Connolly is threaded through into the box. Instead of shooting on his left foot, he cuts onto his right, but gets his effort all wrong and it’s well wide of Johansson’s goal.

Loft shot blocked

Loft shifts his body on the edge of the area to create space for a shot but it’s blocked wide for a corner, which comes to nothing.

Goal! No, offside!

City have the ball in the net, but it won’t count.

Dewsbury-Hall strikes superbly to the top corner from 25 yards, Keto producing a stunning save to deny him.

As the ball dropped down, Uche met it with a diving header but the Spaniard was called offside.

Senior players helping out

The loudest players on the pitch are King and Simpson, with King making sure everyone’s picking up their man and Simpson organising the defensive line.

The game has been fairly even in the last 10 minutes, with both sides playing some slick football.

Dreyer had a shot blocked for Brighton, while King’s long-range effort hit a defender at the other end.

Brighton's first chance

At the other end, a teasing ball from Seagulls left-back Cochrane is met by Connolly, ahead of the advancing Johansson, but his header is wide.

Wright denied

Keto spills a cross and Wright picks the ball up in the box. He spins 180 degrees but Keto has closed him down to block.

On the rebound, King blazes over.

King goes close!

Elder’s long throw is flicked on by Loft and the ball falls to King 10 yards out. His firm shot is parried well by Keto.

  • Share

Ramsay on the wing

It is a 4-4-2 for City but it’s Ramsay, usually at full-back, and not Elder on the wing. Ramsay is on the right, with Wright on the left of midfield.

There’s an early corner for City, won by Ramsay after a flick on from Uche. Dewsbury-Hall’s delivery is punched clear by the keeper.
