Manchester United star Jesse Lingard has been told he would struggle to get into Leicester City's team.

Lingard was linked with a move to the King Power Stadium last year and it was suggested that a swap deal for James Maddison, that would also see £45 million of cash transferred to City, was in the offing.

That was laughed off by the Blue Army and beyond but Lingard was linked again earlier this year with Newcastle United also credited with an interest.

Lingard, who has yet to score or register an assist this season, has made 20 appearances with only nine of them starts.

Since the arrival of Bruno Fernandes in January he has struggled to get into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side.

Amid the uncertainty around Lingard's future, pundit Andy Hinchcliffe has warned him that he needs to get his head down and work hard to get back into United's team.

And even if he does move on it's not guaranteed that he will slot straight in elsewhere.

"Versatility is very important and yes it's important for a coach to have a player like Lingard who can come in," Hinchcliffe told Sky Sports.

"But it's about starting games. What is his best position? Is he best in that position in that position for Manchester United? And the stats don't lie, he is not playing as much.

"Dan James has arrived and been a success, Bruno Fernandes has been a brilliant signing, I think Paul Pogba will come back into that United side, Marcus Rashford will be one of the first names on that team sheet as well.

"So I see Jesse Lingard being a bit-part player at Manchester United because he is not better than any of the players in those positions.

"Is he happy to be a bit-part player or will he think about moving on?

"But he may have the same problem.

"If we were to look at a team like Leicester, I still think Lingard would have a problem getting into Leicester's side.

"So it is all down to Lingard now. He is 27, he is not 22, he is not a young lad, to nail down a position and become so good at playing there that he becomes first choice."
