Clubs from around Europe were keen to prize Caglar Soyuncu away from Leicester City this summer, the centre-back’s agent has said.

Turkish giants Fenerbahce and Besiktas were among the sides to make offers for Soyuncu, who has become the talk of the town after ably filling Harry Maguire’s boots in the first two games of the season.

Despite the approaches, there was never any doubt that the 23-year-old would be leaving the King Power Stadium.

“Caglar missed the pre-season last year and when he arrived, Leicester had Harry Maguire,” Soyuncu’s agent Mustafa Dogru told Turkish radio.

“Caglar played eight games last season and did very well. He deserved to play more but the manager wanted to stick with the old back-line when he came in.

“This summer, we received offers from many teams but we persistently said that he would continue at Leicester. He has been incredibly disciplined.

“For the new season, we received offers from Turkish clubs Besiktas and Fenerbahce. We also had offers from Italian, German and French clubs.”

That tallies with City boss Brendan Rodgers, who has said he was aware of suitors for Soyuncu.

“I knew through the interest we had that if he wasn’t going to play here, that there’d be teams in Europe willing to take him,” he said.
