It's A Classic is always a highlight of my calendar every year.

It's when special schools across Leicester and Leicestershire come together to produce a show at Curve Theatre in Leicester and what a show it is.

The performance is always special, but this year was especially so.

During the show, which is co-ordinated by Sidekick Dance, based at Curve Theatre , and Ellesmere College, dancers drew on some of the most famous ballet pieces in the world for inspiration, including Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.

Sidekick Dance - 'Take Me To The Prom'

Adult Dancers from Sidekick Dance opened the show with their interpretation of Alvin Ailey's 'Revelations' and really set the tone for the evening.  They prefaced their performance by saying they hoped they did it justice - and they more than did that.

The performance was inspiring.

After the Sidekick Adults, the bar was set, and the special schools didn't dissapoint.

Sidekick Dance - 'Take Me To The Prom'

Every single dance and dancer hit the mark with a very moving and powerful performance.

It was clear how much time, and devotion had gone into perfecting each act, and the smiles on all the children's faces said it all.

This year's performance also included the collaboration of Curve Young Company and Sidekick Dance performing 'Take Me To The Prom' - a dance that was performed at the recent 'Mass Movement', which has been selected to go through to the next stage of Youth Dance England.  Bravo!

Well done to everyone involved - a truly joyful, inclusive performance.
