It's only a week until Father's Day - which means it's time to sort out how you're going to say thanks to dad for everything he does.

One way that's sure to be a hit is by taking him out for a delicious Sunday roast.

With meat, vegetables, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings (the bigger the better) and lashings of gravy, it's hard to beat, isn't it?

And, we all know that carveries provide an ideal way to pile your plate high with your favourite comfort foods.

But where should you head to in Leicestershire for a brilliant Sunday carvery?

Here's five of our favourites...

Ben's Kitchen, Kirby Muxloe

Having started out in 2015 at Groby Ex-Servicemen's Club, Ben's Kitchen is now based at Kirby Muxloe Golf Club.

It is housed in the clubhouse, which offers comfortable surroundings, with a view across the green.

On the day of our visit, turkey, beef, gammon and pork were all available on the carvery, and between us we tried everything, except the pork.

All of the meats impressed us, though my favourite would have to be the deliciously sweet gammon.

The Yorkshire puddings were nice and big, and the right combination of crispy and chewy.

There were roast potatoes, mashed potatoes and dauphinoise potatoes - which all tasted good, especially the creamy, garlicky dauphinoise.

Vegetables included carrots, parsnips, broccoli, peas, mange tout, red cabbage, and wonderful cauliflower cheese.

There was a very good ratatouille, too, which you don't see very often on a carvery.

Everything was cooked well, and there's certainly no shortage of choice.

It's a good idea to leave room for dessert, though - especially the delicious homemade cheesecake!

Price: For a large plate it's £11.95 for one course, £15.95 for two courses, or £18.95 for three courses.

Those with smaller appetites can choose a small plate, which is £8.95 for one course, £12.95 for two courses, or £15.95 for three courses.

For children, it's £5.95 for two courses, and those under four years old can eat for £3.95.

Beaumanor Hall, Woodhouse Eaves

As Sunday lunch settings go, Beaumanor Hall is hard to beat.

The historic hall itself is wonderfully ornate and charming, and the beautifully tended grounds are a delight - and perfect for a post-dinner walk.

The William Perry Suite is used for Sunday lunches, and is a suitably grand room, with views to the side and rear of the Hall over the grounds.

When we visited, the carvery featured roast topside beef, honey glazed roast gammon and roast turkey breast, plus roasted red onion and goats cheese tart and roasted salmon.

I had a bit of all three, plus stuffing, a pig in blanket and Yorkshire pud - all of which are served by the chef.

Then there's a good selection of vegetables to help yourself to - including carrots, broccoli, peas, cabbage, new potatoes and roast potatoes.

The meat was all flavoursome and moist - my favourite being the lovely, sweet glazed gammon. The big fluffy Yorkshire puds were wonderful, too.

The roast potatoes were crisp and tasty, the vegetables still had a bit of bite to them, and the pigs in blankets were very moreish.

Starters and desserts are good too - especially the desserts. I tried the Espresso Martini cake, which was just as delicious as I imagined it was going to be.

Price: On Father's Day, the cost is £24.50 for three courses for adults and £10.95 for children. Under threes eat for free.

The Shires, Peatling Parva

The Shires is a lovely pub, which combines traditional charm and stylish surroundings, and the carvery offering is very good indeed.

There was topside of beef, crown of turkey, leg of lamb and leg of pork when we visited, and between us, we tried the lot.

The meat was very good - especially the flavoursome beef, and the large Yorkshire puds were spot on.

There was a good selection of vegetables, including carrots, peas, cabbage, swede and a superb cauliflower cheese.

Plus, there was parsnips, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes and stuffing.

The Lime Tree, Whetstone

The Lime Tree is a lovely pub/restaurant in the heart of Whetstone. Previously The Kaffir Inn, The Lime Tree opened in 2015.

There were three meats available on the carvery when we visited - beef, gammon and turkey, and all were deliciously moist and flavoursome.

Lime Tree, Whetstone

We had the regular size carvery, and though the plates looked small, we managed to pile them high!

The Yorkshire’s were good, although I'm not sure they were homemade as they looked very uniform. There was stuffing balls, crispy roast potatoes, parsnips, carrots, broccoli, leeks, and mashed potatoes.

There was also a very good cauliflower cheese, and onions - which is something I've not seen on a carvery anywhere else.

Desserts include a cheesecake of the week, which was honeycomb when we visited, and it went down a treat.

Price: Regular carvery £9.95, large carvery £12.95, child's carvery (under 12s) £6.95. There's no two or three course deal as such, but starters and desserts are around £5 each.

The Golden Fleece, South Croxton

In a beautiful village close to Melton, The Golden Fleece is spacious, modern dining pub.

The carvery includes topside of beef, roast crown of turkey and roast loin of pork, and we thought they all tasted good, especially the succulent turkey.

There's also nice big Yorkshire puddings, stuffing balls, roast potatoes, mashed potatoes, carrots and parsnips, cabbage, peas, and lovely creamy leeks.

The cauliflower cheese gets a big tick, too.

Desserts include an Oreo gateaux, which I thought was a very pleasant way to round off the meal.
