On a lovely sunny day, you can't beat lying on a beach or going for a paddle.

But, for those of us living in landlocked Leicestershire, a trip to the beach usually involves a few hours spent in the car.

It's great news then, that there's actually a secret beach here in Leicestershire, which not many people know about.

The beach can be found at Bosworth Water Park, just outside the town of Market Bosworth.

The 50 acre site is a scenic spot, with lots of activities on offer.

The Blue Lagoon Beach was built in 2015 and brings the seaside inland!

You can enjoy a paddle in the clear blue water or relax on the golden sand or grassed areas surrounding the lagoon.

When is it open?

Bosworth Water Park is open seven days a week, from 9am until 7pm - so there's plenty of opportunity to enjoy the park and all it has to offer.

What other attractions are there?

There's lots to do at the water park, making it a great day out for the family.

Children are sure to have fun on the pirate adventure playground, as they board The Black Pearl, and there's a 12-hole nautical-themed crazy golf course.

The crazy golf costs £3 per person (Family of four - £10).

You could get the family on the water in a pedalo, which cost £15 for half an hour.

Each pedalo can carry four people and are available for hire seven days a week from 10am until 4pm.

There's also a range of rowing boats and Canadian canoes is you fancy more of a challenge.

If you fancy a drink or a bite to eat, the Water's Edge Cafe Bar serves breakfast, lunch and evening meals.

The cafe, which had a full refurbishment in 2017, also has a children's menu and features an indoor play area.

Another indoor activity is the Captain's Cove Amusements arcade, including the likes of 2p machines and air hockey games.

How much does it cost to visit?

Prices are per vehicle (up to five occupants) and vary slightly depending on the time of year you visit.

This fee includes access to the park grounds, fishing in the main lake for the driver (extra people £5), picnic areas, beach, paddling area, adventure playground and toilets.

If you visit in May or September, you'll pay £2 per hour midweek, £2.50 per hour at weekends and bank holidays.

Between June 1 and September 2, you'll pay £2.50 per hour midweek, £3 per hour at weekends and bank holidays.

Visitors entering on foot or as extras over five in the car are charged £2 per person (under 5's are free) for the day.

Larger groups and coach parties are by appointment and a separate charge will be applied.
