It's getting very close to the moment many people in Leicester have been waiting for - the opening of the city centre's first bowling alley in almost 14 years.

The £1 million attraction East Street Lanes is set to open its doors on Thursday, August 22 - but we were allowed in early to bring you this sneak peek.

And, as you can see from our gallery, it is seriously impressive!

The huge venue has a stylish look and an elegant feel, in keeping with the desire of the team behind it to provide a "premium boutique bowling" experience.

There's some brilliant artwork by Leicester's Graffwerk, along with some well-chosen posters including those from the bowling-themed films The Big Lebowski and Kingpin.

East Street Lanes features eight Brunswick lanes, available for teams of six per lane.

There's a gaming arcade with lots of retro classics, such as Pac-Man Basketball and Space Invaders Frenzy, plus there's pool tables and air hockey.

There's also a lovely restaurant area and a sleek bar that wouldn't look out of place in a hotel.

The food menu, put together by the team behind the Steamin' Billy brand, features sharing platters, burgers, pizzas and salads. Sharing platters include The Seafood Strike and The Veggie (£20.00 each) while pizzas include the Bowler's Inferno (£8.50) topped with pepperoni, ground beef green and red peppers, fresh red chilli, hot spicy sausage and tomato, and drizzled with chilli oil, and the East Street Special (£8.00) made with tomato, mozzarella, pepperoni, ground beef, roasted peppers, red onion, sweetcorn, chorizo and extra cheese.

There's burgers such as The Bowler's Burger (£9.95) which is 5oz beef patty topped with bacon, Red Leicester and red onion marmalade, and the vegan Moving Mountains Bowler's Burger (£12.95).

Salads include chicken Caesar (£9.95) and the vegan Crunch Time (£9.95)

There is also a kids menu which includes meals such as fish goujons, cheese burger and The Little Pepperoni pizza (all £6.95 each).

The large cocktail menu has been created in conjunction with the guys at Campfire Trailer and includes the likes of The Rhubarb Strike (£6.50) and The Big Lebowski (£6.50) as well as premium cocktails such as the East Street Concrete Jungle (£10.00) and Sweetcorn Margarita (£10.00).

There's also beers, mocktails, wine and American-style milkshakes, including Birthday Cake (£4.00 or £6.00 with alcohol) which is topped with sponge cake and 100's and 1000's.

Guests are welcome to pop in for food and drink, even if they're not planning to bowl as well (although they may well be tempted to have a go once they're there).

East Street Lanes is being launched by the team behind crazy golf bar Caddyshackers, which opened in November 2018. The venues are both located in the East Street unit formerly occupied by Dunelm, where there is also an event space, East Street Events. This caters for up to 200 people, with a range of food and drinks options available, making it ideal for parties and corporate functions in the city centre.

The opening of East Street Lanes comes almost 14 years after Leicester's last city centre bowling alley, Megabowl, closed in December 2005.

East Street Lanes is due to open at 5pm on Thursday, August 22.

The regular opening hours will be Monday to Friday 12pm until midnight, and Saturday and Sunday 10am until midnight.

Although East Street Lanes was originally billed as an over 18s venue, accompanied children will be allowed until 7pm.

Adult prices are: £8.95 one game, £16.95 two games, with a discounted rate of £11.95 for two games from 5pm Sunday through to 5pm Friday.

Child prices are: £7.95 one game, £14.95 two games, with a discounted rate of £9.95 for two games from 5pm Sunday through to 5pm on Friday.
