And all that brilliance deserves some recognition at least once a year.

This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, March 31 - and to mark the occasion a number of places around the county are serving Mother’s Day afternoon teas.

Well what could be a better way to celebrate than with tea and cake (and maybe a glass of Prosecco)?

Here’s some of the places you could visit in Leicestershire:

Kilworth House Hotel, Kilworth

There's two afternoon tea options available at this luxurious hotel.

You could treat mum to a 'Flavours of Flowers and Chocolate' afternoon tea on Friday, March 29. This includes flower infused macaroons, mulberry scones and red velvet chocolate cake. It costs £25 per adult, and £9.95 for children choosing from the children's tea menu, or £25 for the full afternoon tea.

Or, you could opt for the Champagne afternoon tea, served in the Wordsworth Restaurant from 2pm until 4pm on Saturday March 30 and in the Orangery from 4pm onwards on Sunday March 31. A gift of chocolates will be provided for every mother.

This costs £35 per adult, and £9.95 for children choosing from the children's tea menu, or £25 for the full afternoon tea.

Wistow Cafe Bistro, Wistow

Celebrate Mother's Day with afternoon tea at Wistow Cafe Bistro on Saturday March 30 or Sunday March 31.

There are two available sittings - 12.30pm to 2pm and 2.30pm to 4pm.

The tea includes a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches on brown and white bread, with fillings such as locally sourced ham with piccalilli relish, Somerset cheddar cheese and sweet and tangy pickle, plus tomato and mozzarella cocktail sticks and coronation chicken cups with a summery twist.

There's also delicious homemade cakes and tray bakes, such as mini fruited scones with clotted cream and strawberry preserve, mini chocolate éclair, strawberry mousse cake and mini chocolate and lemon pots.

Choose from the table of luscious homemade gateaux an indulgent slice of cake to top off your experience, or take it home for later!

Mint and Ginger Coffee House, Tur Langton

A Mother's Day afternoon tea is available at this quaint coffee shop on Saturday March 30 and Sunday March 31.

Costing £14.95 per person, it includes a selection of finger sandwiches, savoury bakes, homemade scones and sweet treats, a glass of non-alcoholic fizz, and tea or coffee.

The Vintage Table Tea Rooms, Hinckley

Enjoy a Mother’s Day afternoon tea, including a selection of finger sandwiches on white and granary bread, large plain or fruit homemade scone with jam and clotted cream and strawberry, plus a slice of homemade cake, crisps and a salad garnish.

There will also be bottomless tea, coffee or pink lemonade, and a glass of Prosecco.

The tea rooms will be dressed in a pretty in pink colour scheme, and there will be a gift provided for Mum.

Spoil your mum with a luxury Prosecco afternoon tea at this lovely tearoom.

The afternoon tea, priced at £19.95 per person, will be served on a mini picnic bench, and includes a selection of sandwiches, scone with strawberry jam and clotted cream, milk chocolate dipped strawberries, mini fresh fruit tartlets, cheesecake bites and macaroons. You'll also get tea or coffee and Prosecco, and you can enjoy entertainment by singer Eleanor Mattley.

Occasions Tea Room, Syston

Treat a wonderful Mum to a wonderful Mother's Day afternoon tea, accompanied by live vocalist Natalie Nightingale treating you to a mix of vintage, pop and classic ballads.

Receive a glass of fizz on arrival before enjoying a menu of freshly made sandwiches, sweet and savoury pastries, fruit scones with clotted cream and raspberry preserve, and a Mother's Day themed cupcake - all accompanied by unlimited tea or filter coffee.

There's no special Mother's Day afternoon tea as such, but this cute cafe can lay claim to serving Leicestershire and Rutland's best afternoon tea (according to the Leicestershire and Rutland Tourism and Hospitality Awards) and we know from experience that it's pretty special.

Afternoon tea includes a selection of finger sandwiches - with fillings such as cucumber and cream cheese, coronation chicken and honey roasted ham and tomato - as well as homemade quiche slices, fruit scone with strawberry preserve and clotted cream, petits fours and pastries, and a pot of tea.

A gluten free option is available.
