Even though I'm a big fan of Chinese food, I have to confess that I've never tried Japanese cuisine before.

I know that they vary slightly and I’ll confess to being scared to stray away from the normal things I order.

My partner suggested trying out the recently refurbished Wagamama on the Brayford in Lincoln.

To say I was excited would be an understatement.

I’d seen the behind the scenes images of the recent revamp and was keen to try the high street chain for the first time.

The interior of the building is great, it was mild at night and the setting inside was really welcoming.

The restaurant has done a great job of creating a relaxing environment.

Myself and my partner were sat down really quickly in an area of our choice on one of the long benches and the service was great.

With it being my first trip to Wagamama I was put at ease by the friendly staff member who was serving us.

Sometimes you can go into a restaurant and feel under a bit of pressure to order but we were put at ease right away.

Fresh juice from Wagamama's, Tropical on the left and Repair on the right.

We opted to try some of the fresh juice that the restaurant has to offer.

I seem to make a habit of preferring things that my partner has chosen and I did the same this time round.

She chose the Repair drink, made from kale, apple, lime ad pear and it tasted great, there was a real zesty flavour too it.

I chose the Tropical drink and was a bit disappointed with the temperature of the drink, again I don’t really know what I expected but the drink came out at room temperature.

It would've been a bit more refreshing if it had some ice in.

The drink was made from mango apple and orange and I expected it to be quite refreshing but it wasn’t what I expected.

It was quite a dry tasting drink, not what I expected.

Lollipop prawn kushiyaki.

To begin with we chose a side each and I opted for the lollipop prawn kushiyaki which were skewers of grilled prawns marinated in lemongrass lime and chilli served with fresh caramelised lime.

All I can say is, wow.

The texture of the prawns and the flavours were amazing.

I was served three and I could’ve eaten three or four more plates of them they were that good.

Tori kara age.

My partner opted for the Tori Kara Age which was seasoned crispy chicken pieces dressed in and served with a spiced sesame and soy sauce garnished with fresh lime.

They loved the sauce that came with the chicken, I tried a bit myself and it tasted nice.

Katsu chicken from Wagamama.

For my main dish I chose katsu Chicken, which admittedly wasn't as adventurous decision as it might have been.

I’d previously tried the katsu chicken at Mailbox before they tragically took it off the menu, so I was looking forward to trying it from a Japanese restaurant.

Firstly the portion size was massive so it was great value for money in my opinion, the only thing that let it down was that the temperature of the food varied throughout the dish.

The sauce and chicken tasted great, as did the side salad that came with it.

I must confess that the katsu sauce did taste a bit bland in some parts whilst others had a bit of a kick to it.

It was nice but I feel like I’d have to try another dish if I wanted to get a taste for proper authentic Japanese food.

Chicken and prawn Yaki Soba.

My partner opted for the chicken and prawn yaki soba, which consisted of soba noodles with egg, peppers, beansprouts, white and spring onions, garnished with fried shallots, pickled ginger and sesame seeds.

The flavour in this dish was amazing, I had to try some for myself.

Much like myself, my partner paid tribute to the huge portion size. There’s nothing worse than leaving a restaurant feeling like you aren’t full.

We certainly didn’t have that problem this time.

The vibe inside the restaurant was nice and relaxed and I can see how sitting on the long benches creates a communal atmosphere.

However I find other people watching you eat your food can be really off putting so can see why people might request to sit at a smaller table.

There was a minor blip on our trip to the restaurant – the lights went out!

It was only for a couple of seconds and didn’t affect our evening too much.
