Firefighters have rushed to the scene of a blaze near a gasworks in Lincoln.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue received the call at 11.50am today, Tuesday, August 13.

Three fire crews have been sent to the scene.

Cadent Gas say they were called out as a 'precaution'

A spokesperson for Cadent Gas said: “Cadent Gas were called out as a precaution, however the fire was found to be on a neighbouring National Grid site.

“The incident wasn’t gas related and by the time we got to the site the fire had been extinguished.”

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue release a statement

A spokesperson for Lincs Fire and Rescue said: “All crews were called out at 11:50am.

“They used two hose reels and one breathing apparatus to cool the structure.

“The last crew left at 13.24pm

“There has been no confirmation as to what caused the incident. Investigations are still ongoing.”

Fire crews were called to the blaze at Clayton Road, just off Newark Road in Lincoln

An aerial ladder platform was also deployed with the crews

Shoppers witnessed people being evacuated

Kelly Dowdall says she was shopping in Aldi when she noticed the smoke.

“I was coming out of Aldi shopping about 10.50am and saw the smoke.

“People were evacuating the area.”
