A popular pub in Lincoln is to turn the taps back on just months after it closed the doors suddenly.

Dan Neale, who used to work at The West End Tap in Newland Street West before it closed, will re-open the doors after being made redundant by its closure.

The local lad said that he saw the closure as the perfect opportunity for him to run the pub himself, which has always been a hit with locals and students.

The pub closed its doors in May this year along with its sister bar Lincoln Taphouse and Kitchen. Dan, who worked at both venues, saw an opportunity for him to run it.

The West End Tap in Newland Street West

He said: "Having worked at the West End Tap before it closed, I’ve already had a real insight into the place, the kind of pub it is and the potential it has.

"In the lucky position that I had working at the pub for five months I got a feel for the place, I got to know the regulars a little bit, the vibe and history and what the pub is all about.

"For me unexpectedly when the place closed, it was a no brainer for me to re-open the pub.

“For me, the importance of this pub to its local community is what really matters – I couldn’t bear to see it stay closed.

“One thing that’s become clear is that everyone has a love for the place and an eagerness for it to do well.

“We’ve got a lot planned in the pipeline for the pub – not only will we be keeping the quizzes, open mic nights, vinyl nights and other regular live music events but we have loads of exciting new events on the horizon.

“Since working towards reopening, the amount of support I’ve had not only from friends, but from locals and regulars that want to see the place back open has been amazing."

The pub will re-open the doors on Friday, August 16 from 7pm with DJ sets, live music and a buffet all planned over the weekend.

Dan added: "Without sounding too cliché this is a dream come true for me and I can’t wait to get open and start a new chapter for me and The West End Tap.

"A lot has happened at once but I'm really excited for the future and I hope it can be a great success and that the West End Tap can be one of Lincoln's greatest pubs like it should be and like it has been in the past.

“See you all for a pint soon – bring dogs!”
