A shop in Lincoln's city centre is the latest to announce its closure.

Thornton's closed the doors to its chocolate shop in Lincoln's Cornhill on Saturday, March 16.

The retailer said that it decided to close that branch to ensure that the locations of the stores meet customer's needs.

Posters were displayed in the shop to announce the closure.

One read: "We're sorry this store is closing on Saturday, March 16. You'll find your favourites in our Lincoln High Street store."

A Ferrero spokesperson said: "Like any retailer, we are continuously reviewing our store estate to ensure we are in the locations that meet our customer needs.

"As a result of such a review, the decision was taken to close the store at Lincoln Cornhill on 16th March 2019.

It closed on Saturday, March 16

"Six staff members were employed at the store and we are looking to find them other employment opportunities where possible.

"Thornton's has been delighted to serve our many local customers over the years and we would encourage them to shop for their favourite Thornton's products at our Lincoln High Street store or online at www.thorntons.co.uk in the future."

It is unclear whether the move is connected to the redevelopment of the Cornhill, but there have been a number of changes in the area in the recent months.

The 200 Degrees coffee shop opened up there earlier this month, while Seasalt is opening nearby on Sincil Street this weekend.

Dollar Jeans moved out earlier this year, while a burger bar and ice cream parlour is being knocked down in a kiosk in the Cornhill.

Lincolnshire Co-op also announced earlier this month that its City Square Centre in the Cornhill will shut this year.
