Elderly people have been left confused as the problems with parking at hospitals in Lincolnshire rage on.

A queue of people built up at Grantham and District Hospital on Thursday, March 21, as elderly citizens struggled to navigate their way around the touchscreen system.

One woman who got stuck waiting said a pensioner had to pay more because the delay meant she needed longer than just an hour.

Posting on Twitter, she said: “I had to pay for parking (twice) at Grantham hospital.

“The queue to pay was because many elderly people couldn't understand the touchscreen system.

“I witnessed elderly people getting upset, embarrassed, frustrated & angry. You need to provide help.”

She explained that the pressure of wanting to get it right and the queue made it a daunting experience for some of the elderly people in the queue.

She continued: “I felt really bad for a few elderly people today.

“Even with people being kind and helping them, they left feeling bad at their own lack of ability.

“Why would we want to do that to our elderly friends?”

United Lincolnshire Health Trust has apologised and said there are usually staff on hand to help.

However, the incident is the latest in a long line of issues that have dogged the trust in recent months.

A number of complaints have been made about Boston Pilgrim Hospital and Lincoln County Hospital.

Many people have been forced to pay more while waiting in long queues.

Staff have also been fine due to a new parking system despite not even being at work.

The trust has apologised in the past and said it is working with ParkingEye – the contractor – to resolve issues people are experiencing.

Officials there say the trust is trying to make the touchscreens easier for people to use.

Posting on Twitter to the woman, it said: “Sorry to hear about your experience - we've been working hard to simplify the screens and usually have staff on hand to assist people with using the machines.”

ULHT has been approached for further comment.
