Lincoln residents were left shocked and concerned after a man was seen hanging precariously from the window of a block of flats.

Police, ambulance and fire crews all rushed to the scene at Shuttleworth House in Stamp End, Lincoln at around 1.30pm today, Tuesday, May 19, following reports of a man being seen on the roof of the tall building.

Onlookers then watched as a man hung his legs out of a window with his chest resting on the window sill.

Police then extended their cordon as they worked on the ground and inside his flat to try and resolve the situation.

The road was then shut and motorists were turned away, with members of the public close by also asked to leave.

The man is now safe and receiving medical attention.

Nathan Crow, who lives in a neighbouring block of flats, said: "I saw a man on the roof earlier.

Police have now released a statement

"It looks like it's all over now - I saw the police put him in the back of an ambulance.

"There's quite a lot of police incidents here. Police had blocked the whole road so no-one could get down there.

"Let's hope he gets some help now."

One woman, who is six months pregnant and lives in Shuttleworth, says she was trapped in her flat when the incident occurred.

"I was stranded in there," she said.

"I was being sick and they wouldn't let my partner in - they said no-one could go in."

Sarah Stow told Lincolnshire Live: "I've never seen anything like it. There were police and ambulances all lined up along the street.

"I knew it was serious straight away. I'm not sure what's gone one because they wouldn't let anyone near the building at all."

Police vans at the scene

Meanwhile Ian Mills, 53, a support worker who lives on the 15th floor, said: “I got back at 11.30am and there were police everywhere - I did not know what was going on.

“I went back out at 1.30pm and there were even more police and one of the neighbours told me what was going on.”

A spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said: "We’ve resolved the Shuttleworth House incident - the man is receiving medical attention."
