Police have been called to stop an illegal rave at a former colliery in Bevercotes.

Officers advised people to avoid the area as they were "working to bring the rave to a conclusion".

East Bassetlaw Police posted this on Facebook at about 11am on Sunday, September 15: "Officers from the East Bassetlaw Neighourhood Policing Team are in attendance at an illegal rave at Bevercotes.

"Officers are asking members of the public to stay out of the area and are working to bring the rave to a conclusion."

The post has divided public opinion with some people commenting in favour of the ravers and others criticising the event.

Julie Bassett wrote: "Let them have some bloody fun! Get some action taken against crime not people who just want to dance!"

Kathryn Mangles wrote: "They are dancing to music in the middle of nowhere not robbing things or places!!"

But Jodie Mitchell posted: "What about the land owner? And the mess they leave behind.

"It's not free to clear up after them!!"

A police spokesman said: "Nottinghamshire Polic were called just before 1.45am on Sunday, September 15, to a report of a large-scale gathering and concerns over loud music.

"Officers attended and spoke to those involved. No arrests were made in connection with the incident."

The incident comes after police were called to a rave at the former Bevercoates Colliery, near Ollerton, during the early hours of the morning on Sunday, July 7 this year.

At the time, the police control room started receiving complaints from local residents of loud music coming from the site at about 3am.

About 80 to 100 revellers were at the scene plus 40 to 50 cars in the area.
