In Lincolnshire we are spoilt by having some of the most beautiful views, architecture and picturesque scenery in the country.

Ok, maybe we are a little bias.

Nobody can deny the beauty of Lincoln’s cathedral, nor can that a stroll through the Lincolnshire Wolds isn't equally as breathtaking.

However, as the saying goes, there is always room for improvement.

And that is definitely the case, as we have a number of buildings and sites laying empty, that could really be turned into something so much more aesthetically pleasing.

So here are just seven we thought could do with a makeover.

The old police station in Lincoln

West Parade Police Station in Lincoln

The aging city station costs hundreds of thousands of pounds a year to maintain and is now obsolete with the opening of the £21m emergency services station opens at South Park in the city.

And that has left questions over what will happen with the building nicknamed the Ryvita biscuit due to its bizarre design.

Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Marc Jones and regeneration group Investors in Lincoln (IiL) will be looking to find alternative future uses for the building that would also generate money for front-line policing.

And that could hopefully include giving the building a new look to something a bit more exciting than a mid-afternoon snack.

The old Barclays in Mablethorpe

The bank has laid empty since closing in July last year.

Customers were sorry to see it go, but we are sure many won't disagree that the building looked like it could have a bit more life injected into it.

If a new business takes over, a lick of paint could really revitalise the building for years to come.

The Bass Maltings in Sleaford

The Bass Maltings in Sleaford are a large group of eight disused malt houses originally owned by the Bass Brewery of Burton upon Trent that date back to the early 1900s.

However, the buildings have not been fully occupied since Bass left and a fire in 1976 caused severe damage to three of the malt houses.

The premises has laid derelict since the 1990s although plans, although it had looked like the buildings would be turned into office, retail and residential space.

These plans were put on hold in 2015 and since then the building continues to be overgrown with vegetation as it slowly crumbles away.

Otters Bridge Petrol Station in Saxilby

The petrol station back in 2016, depriving the local community of a valuable amenity.

Now only the kiosk remains.

Such a big space could be easily turned into something truly beautiful.

Wildlife pub Birchwood

The former Wildlife pub in Birchwood Avenue, Lincoln

The site in Birchwood Avenue was once a vibrant pub called The Wildlife, renowned for having large animals in the front entrance.

However, it was tore down in February 2013 and since then there has been a huge space of nothing hidden behind metal fencing.

In 2018, Ryan Carruthers, of Venture Property Lincoln, used a crowdfunding page to raise almost £35,000 to buy the land.

He wanted to build a development, featuring two three-storey buildings housing 19 apartments, that would have been named Desmond Court in honour of Ryan’s grandfather, who once performed as a singer at the cabaret venue.

However, in early 2019 the plans were withdrawn.

The site remains empty and disused, but could easily be turned into something spectacular.

Nocton RAF hospital

At its height, RAF Hospital Nocton Hall was a 740-bed RAF hospital serving the predominantly RAF personnel based at the large number of RAF stations in the area.

It was used by forces personnel, their families and local civilians until it closed on March 31, 1983.

However, since then it has been unused and unfortunately is a far cry from the bustling place it once was.

Nocton Hall

The building is steeped in history and was even once home to Frederick John Robinson, who served as Prime Minister between 1827 and 1828.

However, it has been dogged by fires and vandalism since closing in the mid 90s.

It is crying out for a developer to restore it to its former glory.
