Pictures and video footage of what holidaying in Skegness in 1961 have emerged.

The footage, belonging to Lincolnshire Film Archive, is taken from a publicity film which intended to attract visitors to the Lincolnshire coast.

Skegness is a town full of nostalgia for many, attracting thousands of visitors every single year as a popular destinations for decades.

The film 'We Chose Skegness' follows a family who come into some money and want to go somewhere on holiday.

The narrator says: "And there it was - a real Littlewoods cheque for £8,406.

"We could have the holiday we've dreamed about anywhere in the world.

"But, as usual, we chose Skegness. And, this time, really doing it in style."

The family visit the Skegness weather station, the tower esplanade, the illuminations and of course the world famous beach.

The video goes on to say: "Of course, it was a beautiful sunny day - Skegness always has good weather."

Donkey ride anyone?

The young boy in the video also has a look at the "bathing beauties" on the beach who play with a beach ball, as well as enjoying a donkey ride.

Fun on the beach

It's a glimpse into what tourists could expect when visiting the Lincolnshire coast all those years ago, and shows just how much has changed since - although a few iconic attractions still remain to this day.

The video is available on Youtube, 59 years after its original release.
