Danny Cowley has hailed the growing influence of Lincoln City’s head of football Jez George.

George joined the Imps earlier this year in a consultancy role after stepping down as chief executive at Cambridge United

The 48-year-old spent 12 years with Cambridge, where he also filled in as first-team manager and director of football.

George has become a key figure at Sincil Bank and recently joined Cowley on a scouting mission to Dublin to watch the FAI Cup final between Dundalk and Cork City.

“He oversees football operations, from the academy through to the first team. He’s been unbelievable,” explained Cowley, who has known George for some time.

“He’s done every role at Cambridge and brings a wealth of experience. He’s a great guy to have around and brings energy and enthusiasm every day.”

George is working closely with chief scout Marc Tracy, who also arrived from Cambridge in the summer.

“He and Marc Tracy are really helping to build and develop the infrastructure of the club,” added Cowley.

“We want to improve the quality of our staff, whether that’s through recruitment or through developing the excellent staff we have in the building.

“We’re working really hard to improve the academy and he [George] has made giant strides with that since he’s been here.”
