If you are looking for a day or night out with mum during Mothering Sunday weekend, then take a look at our roundup for lots of ideas of things you can enjoy together.

Whether mum loves her comedy, music or going to movies then we've got suggestions for you to spend time together as a family.

Or perhaps mum loves her walks? We've got that covered too.

There are also special events and festivals taking place over the weekend.

Here's our roundup so you can start making plans...

Spring Pageant

The final day to enjoy the spring bulb pageant at Doddington Hall is Mothering Sunday on March 31 (11am-4.30pm).

There is a chance to take a wander with mum through carpets of snowdrops, cyclamen and crocuses, and Doddington’s heritage daffodils, including rare Edwardian varieties.

Visitors will also be able to appreciate winter-flowering scented shrubs which are plentiful in the gardens.

Tickets available from the Gatehouse: £7 adults, £3.50 child, £18 family. Historic Houses and RHS member cards are accepted.

Spring walk

Wander with mum around Easton Walled Gardens

Another opportunity to take mum for a walk through beautiful spring gardens is on offer at Easter Walled Gardens near Grantham, which is opening for Mother's Day (11am-4pm). The tea room will also be serving light lunches, cream teas and cakes for an extra treat for mum. Admission is £7.70 for adults and £3.50 for children.

The Easton Estate is set in rolling countryside, and has been owned and managed by the Cholmeley family since 1561. But in the Second World War, Easton Hall was requisitioned by the army and demolished shortly afterwards.

Today, the site of the old Hall and its surviving buildings, is a thriving tourist attraction after the ancient garden was resurrected from its wilderness state by Ursula Cholmeley. The 12-acre garden now includes meadows, roses, sweet peas, spring bulbs and shrubs, cutflower and vegetable gardens.

Catch some comedy

Stephen Bailey's tour arrives in Lincoln on Mother's Day

Audiences are told to a expect a story full of Northern warmth, some working-class guilt and super sharp wit.

Family concert

Two well known children’s classics will be narrated with accompanied live music from the award-winning orchestra Sinfonia Viva for a special Mother’s Day event.

The one-hour concert, starting at 4pm – including the narration, storytelling and live music from the orchestra – will whisk families away on a double bill of adventure.

Families can enjoy the event at St James’ Church in Louth on Sunday, March 31 where Paddington Bear’s First Concert and Peter and the Wolf will be narrated by the church’s Master of Choristers Allan Smith.

Paddington bear
Everyone's favourite bear

The church café will be open for refreshments from 3pm selling teas, coffees and Paddington’s favourite marmalade sandwiches. Fun family activities will also be on offer before the concert and a breakout area for young children will be available.

Sinfonia Viva chief executive Peter Helps said: “We are delighted to be returning to Louth to help celebrate Mothers’ Day with local families. This performance is perfect for family and friends of all ages as both pieces are loved around the world for combining compelling narration with beautiful classical music scores.

“The orchestra will start the programme with Paddington Bear’s First Concert, which is full of humour and the lovable bear’s typical dose of calamity."

“The piece was composed by Herbert Chappell who, in 1974, was invited by Paddington’s creator Michael Bond to write the score for a short cartoon film and is now performed by orchestras and soloists around the world.

“We will then perform Peter and the Wolf which is probably the best known symphonic fairy tale for children, written by Sergei Prokofiev in 1936."

Tickets: £7 (£2 for children under 18-months) or £20 for four. Available in person at St James’ Church or online

Enjoy a family film release

Dumbo gets the live-action treatment in a new film directed by Tim Burton due for release on March 29. The film is inspired by the 1941 Walt Disney animated film and stars Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito and Eva Green.

Live-action involves filming real people or animals, contrasted with animation or computer-generated effects, and plans were announced for the live-action Dumbo remake back in 2014.

Circus owner Max Medici enlists Holt Farrier to care for a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him a laughing stock in a struggling circus. But when Holt's children discover that Dumbo can fly, entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere and an aerial artist named Colette Marchant waste no time in making the peculiar pachyderm a star.

Fly to the moon

Luke Jerram says: "Many people spend hours with the moon exploring its every detail. Some visitors lie down and moon-bathe"

Thousands have already flocked to see the Museum of the Moon at The Collection in Lincoln, and if you think it's something mum would enjoy there's still a chance to catch it over Mother's Day weekend as the installation will be open until April 28.

Measuring six metres in diameter, the scaled down moon features detailed NASA imagery of the lunar surface.

The touring art installation is by UK artist Luke Jerram and each centimetre of the internally-lit spherical sculpture represents 6km of the moon’s surface.

Luke explained: “I wanted to make the artwork seem as authentic and realistic as possible to give the public the opportunity to fly to the moon. For most people, this will be their most intimate, personal and closest encounter they will ever have with the moon."

Lincoln Street Food Festival

People flock to try foods from around the world

Market Place Europe has teamed up with Lincoln BIG once again to host more four-day Street Food Festivals in the city, and the next is happening over Mother's Day weekend.
