A Mossley Hill pensioner who bought his washing machine in 1987 rang the manufacturer to inform them his beloved appliance was still going strong 31 years later.

Frank Fairclough, 72, bought his reliable Zanussi washer from Comet for £180 - and more than three decades later it's still spinning strong.

His retro white good might just be Liverpool's oldest appliance - and he called up the manufacturer to praise its longevity.

Since he bought his FL811 machine, Frank estimates it's done 3,224 loads, washed 32,240 items of clothing and run for 4,836 hours of laundry.

Frank said: “I bought my Zanussi Washing Machine in 1987 because it was reasonably priced and looked good. It’s amazing to think how long it has lasted me. I’ve never had to get it repaired or replace any parts.”

Stuart Carrington, Liverpool Homeless Football Team Manager

To celebrate Frank's amazing machine, Zanussi decided to donate a brand new washing machine to his local homeless football team.

Chris George, head of marketing at Zanussi, said: “We were delighted when Mr Fairclough reached out to tell us that he has had his washing machine for 31 years and it’s still running perfectly.

"Here at Zanussi, we’ve been making washing machines for over 100 years. At the heart of everything we do is a promise to make robust, reliable appliances that make home life simpler.

“To celebrate the washing machine’s 31st birthday we have donated a brand new Zanussi ZWF01483WH front loader washing machine to Mr Fairclough’s local homeless football team to help them achieve a superior clean for years and years to come.”

The brand new machine will help the team to keep their kit looking clean and fresh for games.

Liverpool Football Homeless Team manager Stuart Carrington said: “When we heard that Zanussi wanted to give us a washing machine, we were elated.

"We don’t have a dedicated laundry room at the training grounds so my wife washes all the team’s kit after every match. We hope our machine serves us as well as Mr. Fairclough’s, so we can keep our players’ kits clean for decades to come!”
