Coronation Street fans were left in hysterics tonight by Mary Taylor's shocking 'sex' confession.

After pandering to Alan Halsall's character Tyrone Dobbs all day by cooking him lasagne and offering a massage, the mechanic was convinced that Mary had developed romantic feelings for him.

And things escalated when Tyrone's daughter Ruby asked her dad whether Mary was going to be her 'new mummy'.

Upon hearing this, a shocked Tyrone responded to Mary's apparent advances by trying to place her firmly in the friend zone.

Tyrone said: "I like you just as a friend, but I'm with Fiz."

A shocked Mary, played by Patti Clare, responded with horror, replying: "Oh you arrogant ape, I was merely carrying out my agreed duties of home and childcare."

Mary speaks her mind

However, meeting Tyrone and Kevin in the Rovers Return, Mary launched into a fit of anger and made a bizarre sexual confession.

She shouted: "Oh my god you're hitting on me, Tyrone Dobbs is trying to jump my bones."

Tyrone replied: "Look, I'm sorry I got the wrong end of the stick; but there was the card, the dinner and Kev's been winding me up non-stop."

Mary said: "Oh very nice. All the greasy monkeys having a good old laugh at Mary... well let me tell you a few home truths.

"I would not look at you with lustful eyes if you were the last man on Earth.

"Oh yes I would do my duty to the human race and reluctantly procreate but there'd be no pleasure in it, I can assure you."

Viewers couldn't help but laugh, with many taking to Twitter to discuss the hysterical moment.

One fan said: "Mary is on another level tonight."

Another wrote: "These Mary and Tyrone scenes are too funny loving this writer at the moment."

And a third simply said: "Mary is a legend, love her."
