Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has predicted one of his old side's young players to take that next step during the 2019/20 season.

The Reds have enjoyed some success of late with academy players coming through the ranks but will want more of them to make an impact in the coming years.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is one the great successes of the last few seasons, with the 20-year-old having become the club's starting right-back and a key cog in the Reds' run to Champions League glory earlier this month.

Jadon Sancho, Callum Hudson-Odoi and why Liverpool are ready to put their faith in Rhian Brewster

Joe Gomez also has a huge future at the Reds and outperformed Alexander-Arnold at times last season, though a broken leg injury last December did stunt his development somewhat.

The big question is who will be the next Liverpool player to make a huge impact on the first-team? That man, according to Mellor, will be Rhian Brewster .

The 19-year-old is yet to make his Premier League debut for the Reds but Mellor believes it's only a matter of time before the forward blossoms.

Speaking about the young guns on Liverpool's books, Mellor told AmericanGambler.com that Brewster stands out above the likes of Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent.

"Liverpool have had a few lads that have gone out on loan, Harry Wilson has done very well for Derby in the Championship and Ryan Kent has done very well for Rangers in the Scottish Premier League," said Mellor, speaking exclusively to AmericanGambler.com . "Ben Woodburn is a Welsh international and still very young and there is a lot of excitement around him.

"But the obvious one would be Rhian Brewster, who had an untimely injury for a year but was a Golden Boot winner in the under-17s World Cup team. The likes of Callum Hudson-Odoi and Jadon Sancho have developed from that team.

"Brewster has a big future if he can listen to Jurgen and the coaches at Liverpool, and the senior players there. The inspiration comes from the latest players coming through the academy. Brewster is the one who really excites me because he can score goals, has the right attitude and listens to the coaching staff and Jurgen."
