Gylfi Sigurdsson is happy with his goal return at Everton this season, but knows he can still achieve more.

The midfielder is already in the middle of his best ever Premier League campaign in terms of finding the back of the net with 13 strikes already in the competition across 2018/19.

The Icelandic international's previous best figures came in the 2015/16 season with Swansea City in which he managed 11 goals in 36 league appearances.

The 29-year-old was once again on the scoresheet in Everton's 4-0 win over Manchester United on Sunday - but the club's record signing knows he could have got even more this term.

"I'm quite happy," Sigurdsson told the ECHO when asked about his goal return.

"I could have had a few more goals, but I think you always want more. I'm quite happy with the assist today [vs Manchester United] as well.

"We knew it was going to be a tough game but we started really well and it was nice to get two goals in the first half, get a clean sheet and play some good football.

"Overall it was a very good day, with a clean sheet and three points."

Sunday's performance could hardly have been more different from Everton's last display, which was a dreadful 2-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage.

But Sigurdsson has revealed manager Marco Silva's words to his side during the week were pretty straightforward.

The midfielder added: "He [Silva] told us not to perform like we did against Fulham! He wanted us to perform like we had in the previous few games, it's quite simple.

"We knew how poor the performance was against Fulham and we knew how good the other performances were.

"It was just about getting back to our best."

The Icelandic international has struck up a great partnership with Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the last few weeks, which has worked wonders for both stars.

The striker in particular has proven himself to be one of Everton's most improved players this term, and his teammate is clearly a big fan of playing alongside him.

"Yeah he's fantastic," Sigurdsson remarked.

"His physical ability is fantastic for such a good player. He's got an incredible leap, I think he can jump as high as anyone!

"He's fit and very strong, quick as well, and he makes it really hard for defenders to deal with him.

"He's always learning, but he's been playing really well over the past couple of months. Hopefully he can keep working hard, keep fit and stay in the side."

European football is still a possibility for Everton, who have given themselves hope of seventh place with a strong run of form at home in recent weeks.

Any hope of the Europa League next season would need Manchester City would need to win the FA Cup, but Sigurdsson and his teammates know that seventh is the target regardless.

"Of course that's the target now. We want to finish the season strongly," the midfielder added.
