Only four Premier League club owners have increased their clubs’ standing in English football more than Liverpool’s have.

Fenway Sports Group have taken the Reds from the fringes of the top six to European champions in the space of eight years.

And as impacts go only Manchester City could claim to have taken a club higher, after Sheikh Mansour's billions propelled them to the very top of English football over the past 11 years.

However, three other top flight clubs’ owners have had more success in relative terms.

Using an Elo-based ratings system, the ECHO have ranked every team in the Premier League over the time of their current owners.

It uses the results of every match to create a dynamic rating score for each team, adding different amounts of points when they win and taking them away when they lose depending on the strength of the opposition.

Liverpool and Manchester City were similarly ranked when their respective owners took charge of the clubs.

They’ve both since climbed up the rankings to become the top two sides in the country.

Last season, the Reds triumphed in the Champions League after being pipped to the post in the Premier League by City, who finished a point ahead of Jurgen Klopp's side on 98 points.

But the ranking system does show how Liverpool’s owners have steered the club ahead of the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea.

United were Premier League champions at the time of FSG's arrival at Anfield but the Old Trafford club have steadily slipped away under the Glazer Family's ownership, finishing outside the top four for the fourth time in six seasons.

Arsenal have struggled for consistent success since opening the Emirates Stadium in 2006 and have particularly struggled under American owner Stan Kroenke, who has proven to be unpopular with fans.

Chelsea's success has slowed in recent years with a succession of different managers, a transfer ban and visa issues for owner Roman Abramovich.

Clubs such as Sheffield United, Bournemouth and Brighton have risen up the leagues to establish themselves as Premier League clubs.
