Liverpool fans have once again hijacked Lazio's player of the season poll in support of former player Lucas Leiva.

This is the second year Reds fans have taken over the vote following the midfielder's landslide win 12 months ago.

Lucas had 71 per cent of the vote when he was crowned Lazio's player of the year for 2017/18.

And the Brazilian will reclaim his title as he has this time garnered a whopping 94 per cent of the vote.

The 32-year-old, who spent ten years at Anfield , was up against defender Francesco Acerbi, fellow midfielder Sergej Milinkovic and striker Felipe Caicedo. 

The award will be once again be gifted to the former Gremio man who remains a firm favourite on Merseyside.

Lucas helped Lazio win the Italian cup last month, and he was recently awarded a contract extension which will keep him playing for the Serie A outfit until 2022.
