Liverpool have been handed a Premier League title boost with news that Man City star Kevin De Bruyne looks set to miss the remainder of the campaign with a hamstring injury.

The Belgian, who has struggled with his fitness all season, limped off against Spurs at the weekend after an attempted shot on goal lead to him tearing his hamstring.

De Bruyne, before his new injury, was gradually picking up form for Liverpool’s title rivals - putting in a Man of the Match display at home to Spurs in the Champions League and grabbing two assists in their 3-1 win away at Crystal Palace.

City’s number 17 kicked the ball out in frustration upon realising he could no longer continue at the weekend.

His manager Pep Guardiola has already ruled him out of the Manchester derby on Wednesday.

He is expected to wait at least a fortnight before returning to full training and team-mate Benjamin Mendy is expected to also miss the derby after sitting out training on Monday.

And asked about how long De Bruyne could be out, Guardiola said: "I don't know.

"It was something muscular, which is normal after injuries and three or four games of a lot of minutes with no preparation.

"Maybe he will miss the four games and the FA Cup Final. I don't know how big the impact is.

"We will see tomorrow but I think for the next game, he will be out."
