Manchester's Mackie Mayor market caused a social media storm by accusing Liverpool's newly opened Duke Street Market of copying their design.

Duke Street Market is the latest opening in the city centre and is home to six food outlets and a huge seating area.

Mackie Mayor, based on Eagle Street in Manchester, shared a tweet today alongside images of both markets.

They slammed the Liverpool business for apparently copying their deisgn.

The tweet said: "Fancy a game of spot the difference anyone?

"One is Liverpool's new @dukestmarket the other is Manchester's Mackie Mayor...imitation is meant to be the sincerest form of flattery...yeah right! #ripedoff #getyourownideas."

Unsurprisingly the tweet has caused a huge response with many people jumping to the Liverpool market's defence.

Many response were from Liverpool fans sharing images from Liverpool's Champions League final played earlier this month.

The Manchester based market also shared the same post to its Instagram feed, where the comments were even more brutal.

And user aminmusaphoto said: "As a Mancunian I find it embarrassing to see a Manchester business perpetuating a tired, close minded rivalry between two cities.
