Hartland's Logan Tobel threw for one touchdown and ran for two others in a victory over Salem.

HARTLAND — Logan Tobel is looking more and more like a quarterback.

The all-county wide receiver was pressed into duty behind center when starting quarterback Holden D’Arcy tore his anterior cruciate ligament during a preseason team scrimmage.

In a 39-6 victory over Salem Friday night, Tobel threw for one touchdown and ran for two more while splitting time at quarterback with sophomore Brad Sollom.

Tobel was 8-for-13 for 105 yards, completing a 21-yard scoring strike to Colby Spisz to open the scoring with 1:50 left in the first quarter.

Tobel’s 10-yard run made it 14-0 with 9:25 to go in the second quarter.

“Logan looked a little bit more comfortable back there than he did last week,” Hartland coach Brian Savage said. “Brad did some really good things. He pulled the ball down a few times when things weren’t there and took off and got a couple yards. It’s just kind of an evolving process with two new quarterbacks.”

Sollom was 3-for-5 for 56 yards.

A 25-yard field goal by Connor Clark boosted Hartland’s lead to 17-0 with 1:16 left in the first half. Salem’s only touchdown came on a 6-yard run by Ty Wagner with 8:49 left in the third quarter.

Hartland quickly regained the momentum, returning to the end zone on a 2-yard run by Tobel less than two minutes later.

A 10-yard run by Gage DeLanoy and a 4-yard run by Anthony Leick completed the scoring for Hartland (1-1). DeLanoy ran 12 times for 92 yards. Spisz had six catches for 88 yards.

Aidan Ross had eight tackles.

“The defense played extremely well,” Savage said. “That was good to see the defense stepping up. They’re doing a great job, so hopefully they can continue that.”

Hartland will travel to Brighton next Friday.
