SHERIDAN, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — A New York State Trooper was among the injured in a crash on the Thruway Monday afternoon.

Trooper Stephen Barker, 33, was responding to a property damage accident when he failed to see a Dodge Caravan slowing down, and he rear-ended the van.

Five people were in the van, and four of them were injured. Harry Gibbons, 75, was the driver of the van. He and his passenger, Terrance Marsha, 70, were transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Another passenger, David Jordan, 72, was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.

Two other passengers of the van were airlifted from the scene. George Cole, 66, is listed in serious condition and Timothy McCann, 70, is listed in critical condition.

Barker was also transported for non-life threatening injuries.

The westbound lanes of the Thruway were closed while the accident was being investigated.
