SPRING VALLEY - A Spring Valley man has been charged with arson and attempted murder after village police said he intentionally set fire to a house with about 12 people inside.

Hector Munoz-Zuleta is accused of setting fire to a home at 8 Jay St. on Friday.

Spring Valley police said in a statement on Monday that they responded to the blaze around 2:50 a.m. Friday. About a dozen people, including two children ages 4 and 8, were inside the house at the time, and they all made it out safely, police said.

A fire burned through a house on Jay Street in Spring Valley on June 21, 2019.

Spring Valley firefighters extinguished the fire, which village detectives and the Rockland County Sheriff's Office's Bureau of Criminal Investigations determined had been set intentionally.

Munoz-Zuleta, 39, was arrested on Saturday, police said. He was charged with attempted murder, second-degree arson, and first-degree reckless endangerment, all felonies.

Munoz-Zuleta was arraigned and is being held on $300,000 bail. No other information was immediately available from police.
