STONY POINT - A 32-year-old Piermont resident has been charged with the rape of a minor, police said Monday.

Carlos Medina, who lives on Broadway in the village, faces a felony count of third-degree rape, which involves having non-consensual sex with a person based on being under 17 or other factors.

The alleged sexual intercourse involving the minor occurred June 28, Lt. Daniel Hylas said.

Hylas said the police were not releasing the victim's age or gender to shield the person's identity, but Medina gave the police a statement concerning the allegation. The victim was an acquaintance of Medina and was not a relative, Hylas said.

Medina was arraigned before a Stony Point judge and released on $2,500 bail pending court on July 16. Hylas said Medina's fingerprint check didn't turn up any problems concerning his status in the United States.

Haverstraw police initiated the investigation into accusations that Medina had sex with a minor, as Piermont police assisted in finding Medina in the village.
