Services will be held this week for Matthew Hickey, a 30-year-old Verplanck resident who died after a motorcycle crash in Cortlandt on Thursday.

A wake for Hickey will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home at 170 Kings Ferry Road in Montrose. A funeral Mass is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Church at 240 Eleventh St. in Verplanck, followed by burial at the church's cemetery.

Hickey was riding a 2016 Kawasaki motorcycle east on Kings Ferry Road in Montrose, a hamlet of Cortlandt, around 4:30 p.m. Thursday when the crash occurred, state police said.

A 32-year-old Cortlandt woman was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee west on Kings Ferry Road and turned left onto Hunt Avenue, but she did not see Hickey, police said.

Hickey apparently tried to lay his motorcycle down to avoid the collision, but he was hit by the Jeep, police said. He was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt, where he was pronounced dead.

Cortlandt EMS and Montrose firefighters also responded to the scene. Police did not say if the Jeep driver faces any criminal charges.

Hickey was a graduate of Hendrick Hudson High School and worked with the Local 580 Ironworkers union in New York City, according to his Facebook page.

He is survived by his father, James Hickey; mother, Terri Marafioti Hickey; stepmother, Mary; sisters, Chelsea Hickey, Kylie Hickey and Bianca DeCrenza; and "the love of his life," Angela Flynn, according to his obituary.
