Monterey’s Lozada earns 100th win in sweep over Plainview

Nadia Morales and Serena Garcia combined for 24 kills to give Monterey coach Kelly Lozada her 100th career coaching win Saturday.

The Class 5A, No. 9-ranked Lady Plainsmen coasted to a 25-9, 25-21, 25-15 District 3-5A victory over Plainview.

In addition to her 13 kills, Morales went 17-for-17 from the service line with two aces and Garcia totaled six digs.

Meagan Jimenez led the Lady Plainsmen’s defensive prowess with 10 digs and Taylor Salsky helped the offense with 31 assists. Maddi Stephens finished with seven kills and an ace.

Monterey (25-6, 5-0) is scheduled to play Palo Duro on Tuesday in Amarillo and Plainview (11-13, 1-3) returns home to play Randall.

Lubbock-Cooper 3, Tascosa 1

AMARILLO — Shelby Snead dished out 29 assists to help the Lady Pirates to a 25-19, 23-25, 27-25, 25-22 win over the Lady Rebels.

Snead and KeKe Underwood each had 11 digs with Kate Siegel recording a team-best 21 digs.

D’Mya Hill, Haleigh Douglass and Kaitlyn Mayo combined equally for 27 kills in the victory. Hope Douglass chipped in two blocks.

Lubbock-Cooper (19-13, 1-3) is slated to return to District 3-5A action by traveling to Coronado on Tuesday.

Idalou 3, Tulia 0

TULIA — Dawson Riley hit two service aces in the Lady Wildcats’ 25-15, 25-13, 25-16 sweep over the Lady Hornets.

Madelyn Merrill and AnnaLyssia Gonzales added an ace apiece for the Lady ‘Cats.

Idalou (13-14) is scheduled to play at Lubbock Christian on Tuesday.

Pecos 3, Estacado 0

Pecos dealt Estacado a 25-18, 25-23, 25-21 loss.

C’Kyra Sims ended the match with 10 kills, 10 digs and five blocks for the Lady Matadors. Ashtyn Paige added on four kills and five aces, while Vaniya Davis totaled 12 assists.

Estacado (15-16) is slated to play at Snyder on Tuesday.

Seminole 3, Alpine 0

ALPINE — Robin Franklin and Kassey Gallardo combined for eight kills in Seminole’s 25-11, 25-12, 25-18 win over Alpine.

Gallardo also had six assists and four digs. Emily Alvarez doled out 11 assists with Brooklyn Bates totaling five digs.

Seminole (8-20) is scheduled to travel to Levelland on Tuesday.

Levelland 3, Shallowater 1

SHALLOWATER — Jordan Campbell racked up 45 digs in the Loboettes’ 25-22, 23-25, 25-14, 25-23 win over the Fillies.

Kaylee McCarter led Levelland in kills with 11 and Michaela Watkins chipped in 10 kills, 13 digs, two blocks and two aces. Annie Dewbre finished with 10 kills, four blocks and four digs, while Kazzi Spears doled out a team-leading 20 assists to go along with seven kills and 17 digs.

Madison Batten contributed 43 digs to the Fillies’ defensive effort. Tynli Harris had 23 digs and a team-leading nine kills with Alee Roberts finishing with seven.

Levelland (17-10) is slated to host Seminole on Tuesday, while Shallowater (18-10) is set to hit the road to Lamesa.

West Texas 3, Olton 0

West Texas picked up its second District 4-2A win via a 25-13, 25-19, 25-5 sweep over Olton.

Olton (1-16, 0-2) is scheduled to host Miami at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Brownfield 3, Lubbock Christian 1

The Lady Cubs defeated the Lady Eagles, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20, 25-17.

Lady Eagles middle blocker Haley Brewer had three blocks and 13 digs. Braxley Oaks notched four aces in addition to recording a 2.9 passing rating.

Lubbock Christian (9-11) is scheduled to host Idalou on Tuesday and Brownfield travels to Andrews to play the Lady Mustangs and Coahoma.
