Two Crosbyton residents were among three people killed in a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening near Sweetwater.

The crash was reported just before 7 p.m. on State Highway 153 about 19.5 miles southeast of Sweetwater in Nolan County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Crosbyton residents Joan Palacios, 43, and Juan Palacios, 47, were pronounced dead at the scene, while 22-year-old Katerina Pesina of Crosbyton was critically injured and taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Investigators believe Joan Palacios was driving them in a 2012 Dodge Charger north on the highway when a southbound 2020 Toyota Corolla attempted to pass a truck tractor with semi-trailer in a no passing zone, colliding with the Charger.

The Corolla’s driver, 20-year-old Bryan Isaac Pesina of Dale, was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Conditions were clear and dry at the time of the crash, which remains under investigation by the DPS.
