42-bed memory care community opens in Madison, a first for the area
A 42-bed, 20,000-square-foot facility for the care of people with memory impairment has opened in Madison.
Woodlands Memory Care of Madison is the first residential community in the area built specifically for those with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or related memory impairments, according to a news release Tuesday.
The new facility is at 110 East Madison Road, on 7.3 acres next to the Skowhegan town line, and is owned by Woodlands Senior Living, a Waterville-based business that operates senior facilities in eight other locations across the state.
The Madison site will employ 30 full-time workers. It features an onsite salon, a physical and occupational therapy center, and a large outside courtyard with walking paths, gardens and a large gazebo.
Kelly Burns, whose brother-in-law has moved from a Woodlands facility in Hallowell to the new one in Madison, said in the release, “It’s extremely important for people living with dementia to be connected to their families so they can stay grounded in reality and the things that are important to them.
"Having [my brother-in-law] close by will continue to enable us to do visits regularly … We are very excited about him being there and it’s a beautiful facility.”
Woodlands Senior Living Chief Operating Officer Matthew Walters added: “We realized the need for our services in this area was more than sufficient to support the development of a new community. We are proud that local families will be able to access high-quality memory care for loved ones — closer to home.”
