Nine more people have died with coronavirus in Greater Manchester's hospitals, according to the latest NHS figures.

It brings the total death toll in our region's hospitals to 1,743.

While the number of lives lost to the virus continues to rise, some hospital NHS trusts have reported new no new deaths.

Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust have recorded no new deaths in the last 24 hours.

Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust saw the highest number of deaths in the last day, with four new deaths recorded.

Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust an Stockport NHS Foundation Trust and Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust only recorded one death each.

These are the most up to date figures released by NHS England for hospital deaths, but the total number of fatalities caused by COVID-19 in the wider community is likely to be much higher.

NHS England has announced 147 more people had died after testing positive for COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths in hospitals in England to 25,691.

Of the 147 new deaths announced on Sunday, 28 occurred on May 23, 40 on May 22, and 12 on May 21.

The figures published today by NHS England show April 8 continues to have the highest number for the most hospital deaths on a single day, with a current total of 891.
