These are just some of the knives discovered in Manchester city centre in the past 24 hours.

GMP has been sharing images of the knives on their social media pages, and is urging anyone who finds a weapon to report it.

It includes this four-inch lock knife, which was discovered in a shopping centre on Thursday and handed to officers by security guards.

Inspector Jon Middleton wrote: "This knife was found on the floor of a shopping centre in the City yesterday eve. Quite rare but still concerning. Security were vigilant enough to spot it - called us & officers attended to seize it. If you see anything like this in the city pls call us or report online."

A large knife and a quantity of drugs were also handed over to plain clothed officers in Piccadilly Gardens.

Earlier in the day the Inspector had revealed that officers working as part of Operation Sceptre had made five arrests in just an hour-and-a-half over Friday lunchtime.

The arrests were made on Market Street, Piccadilly Gardens and London Road and included two people in possession of knives.

GMP has also been posting images of hidden knives that have been found around Greater Manchester throughout the week, as part of their #openyoureyestoknives campaign.
