A man in his 40s has been found dead on Market Street this morning.

Metrolink trams diverted their services, citing a medical emergency earlier today.

Locals shared their concerns on social media after seeing a police cordon in place on the busy street.

A police spokeswoman said: "Shortly after 9am, officers on patrol in the city centre found the body of a man believed to be in his 40s on Market Street in the city centre.

"Emergency services attended but the man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
