Mancunians were in fine voice tonight as they took to their doorsteps, balconies and gardens for a mass lockdown singalong.

They were joined by stars including Liam Gallagher, Mark Owen, and Tim Booth belting out hits such Shine by Take That, Sit Down by James, and Search For The Hero by M People at the Together In One Voice event.

Local choirs led the singing, which was steamed live online and introduced by musicians and singers including Mike Pickering from M People, Tom Walker, Liam Fray and Emeli Sande.

Introducing the James anthem Sit Down, Tim Booth told the moving story of singing the hit to his father-in-law over FaceTime, an hour before he died from Covid-19 last month.
