A south Manchester road will be closed off for two weeks as part of the council's ongoing £100m highways investment programme.

Resurfacing work will take place over different areas of Withington Road during the two-week project.

The section of Withington Road between Yarburgh Street and Moss Lane West in Moss Side will be closed off from Thursday (June 4) until the following Friday (June 12).

From June 13, the road between Manley Road and Yarburgh Street in Whalley Range will be closed until June 21.

Work will be carried out seven days per week from 7am to 5pm Monday - Saturday and 9am until 5pm on Sundays.

Signed diversions will be in place for traffic.

Residential access will be maintained, however vehicular access will not be possible during working periods when the road surface is being removed and new materials are being laid and compacted.

Residents are being asked not to leave vehicles on the road during working hours.

Council officials say the work is being conducted now in order to take advantage of the quieter roads.

Executive Member for the Environment, Planning and Transport, Councillor Angeliki Stogia, said: "With traffic levels currently very low due to the essential restrictions on movement, we're continuing to press ahead with our £100m highways investment programme.

"We know that residents want to see improvements to their roads and footways, so we are resurfacing roads and repairing potholes, prioritising busier routes where possible and are making significant progress, while ensuring that social distancing and hygiene protocols are observed for the safety of all staff.

"We will do everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum and thank residents in advance for bearing with us while the essential work is carried out."
