Coronation Street is working with the British Heart Foundation on a storyline that will see a popular character suffer a heart attack.

Popular window cleaner and cabbie Tim Metcalfe, played by Joe Duttine, will be left fighting for his life in the upcoming plot.

Corrie bosses have confirmed that their research team and writers have been working with the British Heart Foundation, a charity organisation which funds research to help beat the heartbreak caused heart and circulatory diseases, on Tim's story.

The awareness-raising storyline will look at affable Tim's lifestyle choices and the benefits of healthy eating and regular exercise.

Tim, played by Joe Duttine, arrived in Weatherfield in 2013 as Faye Windass' biological father and he soon became a favourite on the cobbles, finding romance with the prim Sally Webster.

The pair have since become one of the most-loved comedy duos on the street but their relationship was recently rocked when Sally went to prison after being framed for raming her for money laundering, bribery and fraud by conman Duncan Radfield.

Mother-of-two Sally was arrested at a Greatest Showman-theme family fun day in August watched by a crowd of friends and family.

The highly regarded Underworld machinist was placed in the frame by new friend Duncan for taking £40,000 from council charitable funds.

Duncan claimed he was setting up a charity after his wife died from a stroke and asked for her help with a funding application to the council.

But Sally was stunned to learn there was no such charity and was painted as a crook who lured him into having an affair with her, leading her to step down as the mayor.

It almost caused her marriage to Tim to collapse when he believed the story about the affair and grew closer to Sally's sister Gina Seddon, who was also unmasked as a liar with her own agenda when she claimed she and Tim had slept together.

Tim and Sally's daughter Sophie then intercepted Duncan and his wife May to prove he had been lying all along.

Sally was released from prison and the couple are now back on track but are set to be rocked again by Tom's health problems.
