Coronation Street's Emma Brooker broke down in tears as she discovered that Steve McDonald was her real dad in an epic double bill of the ITV soap.

The distraught hairstylist and barmaid recoiled in horror when Steve confessed to being her biological father at the funeral of the man who raised her, and attacked him with a wreath spelling out the word 'dad.'

Emma repeatedly whacked Steve with the flowers he had delivered to the funeral before fleeing in tears in dramatic Corrie scenes.

Earlier Emma, played by Alexandra Mardell, wept on her friend Maria Connor's shoulder over the death of the man she had always believed to be her dad.

Furious that her mum Fiona Middleton and older brother Morgan had kept the truth from her, she ordered Morgan to leave her alone.

"I want my dad," she told Maria.

The poignant wreath

And with poignant timing Steve, played by Simon Gregson, arrived with the 'dad' wreath on the roof of his taxi, made by his florist wife Tracy.

Emma confided in the sympathetic Street Cars boss about her heartache, and he chose the emotional moment to tell her the truth.

"By not being his it means you belong to someone else," he said.

"It means you've got another dad out there and that dad is me."

Steve comforted Emma

Steve, who has a teenage daughter Amy with Tracy and a toddler son Oliver with Leanne Battersby, secretly did a DNA test by ripping out a piece of Emma's hair.

He previously had no idea that he had another child with his ex Fiona, played by Angela Griffin.

Audrey Roberts spotted a photo of Fiona flash up under the name 'mum' on Emma's phone and Liz McDonald realised her son must be the dad, because they dated in 1998 the year before Emma was born.

Steve was left wet and covered in flowers

Fiona already had Morgan with policeman Alan McKenna and Steve had wanted to bring the baby up as his own. But Fiona left with her baby after finding out Steve had cheated on her with hairdresser Maxine Peacock.
