A man who travelled from Greater Manchester to North Yorkshire for a BBQ with friends drove himself to hospital after he was stabbed.

Another man, also from the region, has been arrested following the incident in Barden Bridge in the Yorkshire Dales.

The victim, who is in his 30s and from Oldham, suffered serious injuries when he was stabbed after a row broke out, YorkshireLive reports.

He remains in hospital following the attack, which happened at 8pm yesterday, and was helped by strangers before getting medical treatment.

A spokesman for North Yorkshire Police said: "He was attacked during the barbecue at Barden Bridge following an altercation with another man, who police believe knew the victim.

"He suffered serious injuries and drove himself to hospital where he continues to receive treatment today. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

"Detectives believe it was an isolated incident and have arrested a man in his 20s from Manchester. He currently remains in police custody while enquiries continue."

Officers are appealing for witnesses, or anyone who helped the victim after the incident, to come forward.
