Manchester United should sign Wolves striker Raul Jimenez in the January transfer window, Danny Murphy has suggested.

After victories against Tottenham and City, United are fifth in the Premier League table, just five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for Champions League qualification.

Yet Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remains in the market for attacking reinforcements in January after failing to replace Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

United are targeting Erling Haaland but Murphy has suggested they might benefit from signing a striker that is already playing in the Premier League.

"Wolves fans won't like it but he (Jimenez) is a quality player. He's that type you're talking about," the Murphy told Sky Sports' The Debate.

"I agree, centre-forward is very important and if Rashford was injured or James was injured, [Anthony] Martial can play wide if they had another striker."

Jimenez joined Wolves, initially on loan and then for a £34million fee, upon their return to the Premier League in 2018 and his goals spearheaded their march to qualification for the Europa League and an FA Cup semi-final.

The Mexican has scored 32 times in 71 appearances in England, as well as adding 15 assists. He scored in Wolves' FA Cup quarter-final win over United last season.
