It was a case of three out, three in for Manchester United's senior team this season, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer oversaw his first summer transfer window.

Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James have all made promising starts to their United careers as they replace the three first team players who left over the summer.

Ander Herrera declined a new contract to join PSG, Antonio Valencia was released, while Romelu Lukaku joined Inter Milan shortly before the transfer deadline. Squad members like Alexis Sanchez and Marcos Rojo are being linked with moves away before European deadlines close on September 2.

The trio joined 13 youngsters in leaving United and starting the new season away from Old Trafford.

Here, we look at how the former United players have started the new season:

Romelu Lukaku (Inter Milan, £73m)

Scored in consecutive warm-up games against lower league opposition ahead of Inter Milan's Serie A opener this week against Lecce.

Ander Herrera (PSG, free)

The popular midfielder started the Trophee des Champions win over Stade Rennais earlier this month, but a calf injury has kept him out of the opening two Ligue 1 fixtures of the season.

Antonio Valencia (LDU Quito, free)

Valencia is enjoying life back in Ecuador, featuring six times for his new club. However, Valencia was sent off in their last outing against Barcelona SC Guayaquil for two bookings.

James Wilson (Aberdeen, free)

The 23-year-old left United this summer after failing to live up to the early promise when he broke into the first team. He has returned to Aberdeen after a successful loan spell, and has one assist in six appearances so far this season.

Regan Poole (MK Dons, free)

Defender Poole was snapped up quickly by newly-promoted League One side MK Dons this summer, and he has quickly established himself in the first team. An assist in the 2-2 Carabao Cup draw at AFC Wimbledon was followed by a successful penalty in the victorious shoot-out to send MK into the second round.

Josh Bohui (NAC Breda, free)

Forward Bohui has moved to the Eredivisie, joining NAC Breda on a two year deal. The club have a strong reputation of developing young British talent and Bohui will be looking to take his game on in the Netherlands.

Matt Olosunde (Rotherham, free)

Olosunde was part of the Rotherham squad that was defeated by United U23s in the Leasing.com Trophy two weeks ago, but the defender has quickly established himself at right-back for Paul Warne's Millers. Olosunde has played every minute of the new season in all competitions.

Matthew Olosunde came up against his old teammates in United's Leasing.com Trophy win.

Callum Whelan (Watford, free)

Whelan has swapped United's academy for Watford's, signing a one-year contract with an option at Vicarage Road. He started Watford U23s Professional Development League victory at Sheffield United last week.

Matty Willock  (Gillingham, free)

Hailed by experienced manager Steve Evans as his most exciting capture for Gillingham - in part due to a glowing reference from Nicky Butt - Willock is hoping to make a name for himself in League One.

Evans said: “During my brief time as Manager, this is the signing that excites me the most given his ability, stature, strength and unbelievable reference from United legend Nicky Butt.

“Gills fans should remember his name; they will love this signing. He is destined for greater things and we’ve beaten off some very significant interest from Championship clubs. He is nothing short of an outstanding talent.”

DJ Buffonge (Spezia, free)

Striker Buffonge had trials at Bolton towards the end of last season, but has moved to Italy in search of first team football. He has played once for his new club, who play in Serie B.

Callum Gribbin, Millen Baars, Tom Sang, Tyrell Warren, James Thompson and Zak Dearnley are still without a new club.
