Victor Lindelof is happy his friend and teammate Paul Pogba stayed at Manchester United after constant speculation linking him with a move to Real Madrid.

Both Pogba and the Real hierarchy openly flirted with a possible transfer but United stood firm and wouldn't sell the midfielder and Lindelof, who has a close relationship with the France international, is glad he has stayed at the club.

Asked about the transfer speculation linking Pogba to Real Lindelof told Sport Expressen: "So, he has a contract with the club and is a very important player for us. I am very happy to have him as a teammate. Not only because he is a good person but also because he is a good footballer."

The pair have struck up a close bond during their time together at Old Trafford and the Swedish international explained they tend to play games, eat and drink when they hang out.

"We have a very good relationship, a nice and kind guy who is very fun to hang out with," Lindelof said. "There is nothing more to it. We live very close to each other too, so that makes things easier."

Lindelof himself hasn't avoided transfer speculation either and this summer was linked with a move to Barcelona before agreeing new terms at united.

"There was a lot of writing about it. But for me I have a contract with United and I am the loyal club. I like very well. For me it was never a question either, I wanted to stay in United and believe very much in what we have going on and that is also why I signed a new contract," he explained.

"I love to represent United and to wear that sweater every day. My goal when I came here was to win titles and do well for all supporters. But I haven't won a title yet, so it's my big goal to take home big titles with United."
