Manchester City secured the signing of Joao Cancelo on deadline day, but the Portugal international wasn't the only player the club signed before the transfer window slammed shut.

The Citizens also secured the signature of highly touted Japanese forward - Ryotaro Meshino.

The 21-year-old arrives at the club for a nominal fee of £900k, according to Transfermarkt, but will be loaned out to Hearts in order to play first-team football.

Here is a closer look at the youngster.

Name: Ryotaro Meshino

Date of birth: June 18, 1998

Position: Forward

Signed from: Gamba Osaka

Birthplace: Osaka, Japan

Career history

Graduated from the Gamba youth academy to play a prominent role in the first-team

Meshino signed his first senior contract with Gamba Osaka back in 2017 after impressing coaches while playing for the Gamba U-23 side in the lower divisions.

He quickly moved up the ranks and made his J1 League debut in 2018. Since then, Meshino has juggled playing for both the senior and youth teams, scoring three goals in the Japanese first division before sealing his move to Manchester City.

A quick, agile forward with an eye for goal, Meshino is a constant threat to defenders and loves cutting in from the right wing.

Having been granted a UK work permit last week, he is on the verge of joining SPFL side Hearts in order to continue his development.

Given he is already 21 years old, it's difficult to see a path to the first-team for the winger unless he can make a massive impression in Scotland.

Hearts boss Craig Levein has already expressed his excitement at working with the forward who he feels can have a big impact at the club.

He told the Edinburgh Evening News: "He’s keen to come here. He had two other clubs in Holland he had spoken to but we’re delighted he’s chosen to come here. But there’s still a bit of work to do."

The manager added that although he knew the forward was talented, he did not know what City's long-term plans for his development were.

"I'm hugely excited about this one, he is an extremely talented young boy," Levein said. "We have been talking to Manchester City about a few things recently and nearly did another bit of business a couple of weeks back.

"Being able to bring someone into the UK on loan to us gives the player an idea of the environment and maybe Manchester City will take him after that or maybe he will stay for another year, I don't know."
