The summer holidays are here, and for many families that means a trip to a theme park.

With the warmer weather upon us, a day outdoors enjoying some white knuckle rides is a fun way to spend a day off with the kids.

Luckily some of the UK's major theme parks are not too far away from Greater Manchester, with Alton Towers located just over an hour's drive away.

Closer to Manchester, we have Gulliver's World, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Gulliver's Kingdom.

If you're planning a summer trip to have a ride on the rollercoasters, we've found some deals that could save you a bit of cash.

Alton Towers

The Oblivion rollercoaster is even more terrifying at night
The Oblivion rollercoaster at Alton Towers

One of the UK's best-loved theme parks, Alton Towers has grown to become an all-in-one attraction.

The theme park itself is just a small part of Alton Towers Resorts, where you can now stay at hotels, visit a waterpark, play mini golf, eat at restaurants and visit toddler-friendly CBeebies Land.

Season passes are currently on sale for £50 from Wowcher (normal price £56 when bought direct from the Alton Towers website), allowing you to visit as many times as you like between now and the end of the season on November 3.

That's £8 cheaper than buying a day pass on the day. If you're planning more than one trip between now and the end of the season it'll save you money on advance day tickets too - a standard day pass booked in advance costs £34.

Check the T&Cs carefully though, as a standard pass excludes admission of Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in August and certain other dates.

Premium passes, which include entry during summer weekends, can also be bought from Wowcher at the discounted price of £65 (normally £70).

If you're a Tesco Clubcard holder you can convert your points into Boost tokens and get three times their face value to use on Alton Towers tickets - potentially saving you up to two thirds off the entry price.
