The nation is in the grip of a vegetable shortage, and one Manchester restaurant has taken to social media to speak of their struggle.

In a Facebook post, Amma's Canteen - a south Indian restaurant in Chorlton - described the crop shortage as 'a problem that threatened to shake the foundations of Amma's Canteen and provide untold disappointment to our customers'

The shortage has been caused by the heavy rains that have plagued the UK in the last few weeks, damaging crops in Lincolnshire.

Affected vegetables include cauliflower, broccoli and cabbage.

The dish at risk for Amma's Canteen is their cauliflower bezule, a dish our reviewer described as: "a simple stunner: a plate of crispy florets doused in a tangy, spiced yoghurt sauce - though not as hot as the menu and waiting staff warn - with a quenching yoghurt and okra dip on the side."

The team at the restaurant have apparently searched high and low for the brassica, reaching out to various suppliers, markets, shops and allotments to find the vital ingredient.

The tongue-in-cheek post from the restaurant went on to say: "At one stage had drawn up plans to make the restaurant BYOC [bring your own cauliflower] as we were losing hope!"

Thankfully, a stash of cauliflower has been located 'at great cost to the restaurant', which are now 'under lock and key in a secret warehouse in Manchester'

Brussels sprouts are also thought to be affected by the unprecedentedly wet summer, which has seen certain vegetables disappear from online supermarket websites.

The shortage is expected to continue until September.
