In a city where red and blue dominate the sporting agenda, the same can now be said for parts of Greater Manchester after Thursday's General Election result.

Manchester favourites The Courteeners’ hometown of Middleton was one of those to turn blue.

It's in the aftermath that the band arrives at Manchester Arena to round-off another memorable year, with politics put to the back of minds.

Everyone in attendance is ready to party.

The year has seen a headline set at Kendall Calling. They played their biggest gig yet at a sold-out Heaton Park for a memorable homecoming in June.

Album number six More. Again. Forever. is out next month.

Nothing seems to be slowing them down.

Support act Miles Kane is warmly greeted by the enthusiastic crowd as he prepares for his latest studio album. He leaves the stage as chants of ‘Liam, Liam, Liam’ fill the arena.

Drinks fly through the air and rainbow-coloured flares are lit as the 'other' Liam walks on stage to Oasis' Morning Glory.

He launches into traditional opener Are You In Love With A Notion, with the usual audience response, before the crowd is taken back to 2008 with St Jude classic Cavorting.

It’s clear everyone is here for a good time as the lively Saturday night crowd enjoy 2016 number No One Will Replace Us followed by Summer.

During Bide Your Time, Liam asks everyone to show their phones. Darkness fills the arena, aside from the phone lights as they rip through the classic.

The Opener is a song that belongs on any Manchester setlist. As Liam sings ‘I was made for this place’, the crowd agrees he couldn’t be more correct.

Liam dedicates the beautiful Small Bones to ‘anyone who watched us at Heaton Park’ as the crowd sing back every word.

Heart Attack, and the dark but brilliant Heavy Jacket, are dropped off their new album, with huge choruses and a fresh direction for the band.

Sycophant and Lose Control get the crowd moving again before album title track More. Again. Forever. brings a close to the first half of the set as Liam thanks for the audience for letting them do 'a five and a half minute folk and funk track'.

A string section arrives for You Overdid It Doll as a host of fan favourites are given a fresh dimension. Please Don’t brings the Arena to life again as the whole crowd join in with the powerful chorus.

The rarely played That Kiss sounds glorious with the orchestra and Liam's soft but reaching vocals.

The orchestra departs as Fray stays alone for an acoustic Hanging Off A Cloud, his new piano-led new number with deep vocals.

An emotional Liam plays a version of Oasis’ Live Forever for the ‘first time since he was 16'. Manchester classic Smiths Disco follows as everyone reverts to life at The Star and Garter.

Modern Love is received more than warmly by the crowd as rowdy classics Not Nineteen Forever and What Took You So Long close the triumphant night and with it the decade for the Mancunian legends.

You can bet that they will be selling out venues in Manchester ten years from now.

God bless the band.
